Scope Description Temporary pipe closures manufactured from aluminum plate of pressure vessel quality.
Material Specification ASME SB-209 Alloy 5083 Temper O. Or GB/T 3880 Alloy 5083 Temper H112 Or other alternates in conformance to the requirements as listed in the Mechanical Strength section. Plate shall be pressure vessel quality.

Lengths Not applicable.
Tolerances Specified thickness is minimum acceptable.

+0/-0.5 mm for diameter D. Closures may be supplied ≤ 5 mm thicker than the specified thickness.

Drawings Not required. See Figure 1.
Calculations Not required.

Heat Treatment Per Material Specification Heat treatment to ASTM B 597 (now B 918) is not required.
Inspection Per Material Specification. Inspection is not required unless specified in the purchase order.
Testing Per Material Specification

Bend tests are not required.

Examination Per Material Specification. Ultrasonic examination is not required.
Certification Mill certificate or, in Europe only, inspection certificate Type 3.1 to EN 10204. Also see General Piping Material Purchase Specification.
Marking Per Material Specification. Marking shall also include the heat number and the Commodity Code. Also see General Piping Material Purchase Specification.
Protection Per Material Specification. Protection to ASTM B 660 is not required.

 

Color Coding Not required.
Special Requirements The hydrogen content of the billet shall not exceed 0.2 ppm by mass, and a statement verifying this shall be included on the certificate. The finished product shall be suitable for welding.
Packing Shipment and Packing Specification for Equipment and Materials. Suitable packing shall be provided to ensure that all items arrive at the contractual point of delivery in an undamaged condition. Refer to the purchase order for specific packing standards and instructions.

Where:

D = plate outside diameter in mm, see Commodity Code

T = plate thickness in mm, see Commodity Code

H = tapped hole, threaded 1 NPT for DN150 (NPS 6) and smaller and threaded 2 NPT for

DN200 (NPS 8) and larger. NPT threads shall be to ASME B1.20.1.

Commodity Code construction (see 4WPI-FWZC01) shows the dimensions D and T thus:

Where “xxxx” is the D dimension in mm and “yyy” is the T dimension in mm.

Note: This engineering specification shall be used in conjunction with General Piping Material Purchase Specification.
