Electronic Truck Weighing System Scope of Work

Basic scope of work for the weighing system shall include all of the following items. These items will always be furnished by the system supplier.

  • Design of the weighing system and all components, including a recommended design for the foundation.
  • Weighbridge deck may consist of structural steel modular sections with cast-in-place concrete infill, all structural steel modular sections, precast concrete sections, or pre-stressed concrete sections.
  • Electronic load cells, including all associated wiring, raceways, and junction boxes needed to connect the load cells to the main weighbridge junction box.
  • All special inserts or embedments needed to install the weighing system that must be cast into the concrete foundation during its pouring.
  • All hardware needed to mount and install the weighbridge sections and load cells on the foundation, including any special tools and gauges required to accomplish the installation.
  • All electronic cables between the weighbridge main junction box, and the system indicator/controller, printer, and any optional peripheral equipment provided with the system.
  • Electronic digital weight indicator-controller.
  • Weight ticket printer.
  • Surge-voltage and lightning-protection equipment.
  • On-site supervision and instruction for the weighing system installation by others (for example, placement of the weighbridge sections, load cell installation, and connections).
  • Responsibility for obtaining all onsite calibration, certification, regulatory approvals, and official seal stampings associated with obtaining the appropriate regulatory authorities’ official acceptance of the weighing system for legal use. This shall include the provision of all necessary calibration equipment/weights and payment of any related fees.
  • Complete documentation for the system (for example, drawings, wiring diagrams, manuals, spare parts recommendations, and certifications).
  • Quality assurance program to ensure that all required inspections, testing, and documentation are done to comply with appropriate regulatory authorities, and the weighing system meets Company’ requirements.
  • Complete detailed information on services, personnel, and response time available in the local area where the weighing system will be installed. Availability of spare parts for the system shall be included.

Optional system supplier scope of work for the weighing system shall include any or all of the following items only when required by the project-specific documents.

  • An identification “swipe” card reader for automatic input of truck/driver information to the system.
  • A “qwerty” keyboard for manual input of truck/driver information to the system.
  • A data management computer system with printer and related equipment needed to control the overall weighing system, store and print records of weighing operations, and control the use and production of identification “swipe” cards.
  • A remote digital weight display unit.
  • Weatherproof local housing for identification “swipe” card reader, keyboard, remote digital weight display unit, and weight ticket printer located adjacent to the weighbridge.
  • Labor and equipment needed to install the weighing system in the foundation (for example, placing the weighbridge sections, load cell installation, and connections).
  • Labor, equipment, and materials needed to install the concrete in the prefab weighbridge sections for cast-in-place concrete deck scales.
  • Stainless steel apron for weighbridges in “load-on” cryogenic trailer service.
  • Trailer wheel position locating bump strips for weighbridges in “load-on weighbridge” cryogenic trailer service.
  • Access ports with cover plates for weighbridges with pit drains located below the weighbridge.
  • Auxiliary output signal module for the weighing system indicator-controller to provide a remote signal indication of the weight on the weighbridge.
  • Labor and equipment needed to install the electronic cable between the weighbridge main junction box and indicator-controller (and other devices as appropriate).
  • Complete turnkey installation of the weighing system. This would include items listed in paragraph 2.4.3 and appropriate items listed in this “optional” scope of work section. The project-specific documents will provide details for this option when it is required.

The following items shall not be considered as part of the weighing system supplier’s scope of work. This work will be done by others, unless specifically stated to the contrary in the project-specific documents.

  • Soil excavation and concrete foundation installation for the weighbridge.
    • Note:  A recommended foundation design shall be furnished.
  • Labor, equipment, materials, and installation of the raceway (conduit/cable tray/cable duct) for the electronic cables between the weighbridge and the locations of the various system devices.
  • Electrical power supply to the weighing system components needing electric power (for example, indicator-controller and printer).
