METAL BUILDING COATINGS AND FINISHES

1. All structural members shall be cleaned of loose scale and foreign matter according to SSPC SP 2 before receiving one shop coat of a rust-inhibitive primer paint that meets or exceeds the performance requirements of SSPC – Paint 25. The applied dry film thickness shall be nominal 1 mil. Structural bolts shall not be prime painted.
2. Roof panels shall be coated with an aluminum-zinc alloy coating, according to ASTM A792 over a steel substrate. The nominal coating weight is 0.5 ounce per square foot of coated steel both sides, equivalent to an approximate coating thickness of .0018 inch both sides. Stock shall be coated before roll forming. Roof panels do not require an additional color coating system. The panel finish has an endorsement warranty of 20 years.
3. All exterior and interior covering panels, flashing, trim, and related materials shall be coated as follows:

• • The base metal shall be galvanized according to ASTM A653, Class G90. The nominal thickness shall be .0015 inch of zinc alloy both sides. Minimum spangle shall conform to ASTM A653.
  • A silicone polyester thermosetting coating shall be factory applied to the front or exposed face to a total dry film thickness of 1 mil minimum and oven-baked under quality controlled conditions. The paint system shall meet the following test criteria.

• • A silicone polyester thermosetting coating shall be factory applied to the back or unexposed face to a total dry film thickness of 1/2 mil minimum and oven baked under quality controlled conditions. The color shall be gray to distinguish this side from the front or exposed side.
  • All stock shall be coated before roll forming.
  • The building manufacturer shall warrant the covering materials silicone polyester coating system for 10 years.
