Air Cooled Condenser Installation | Design | Technical Specification

This article is about Air Cooled Condenser Installation, Design and Technical Specification as per International Codes and standards.

Air Cooled Condenser Installation | Design | Technical Specification

  1. Condenser units shall be mounted on a concrete housekeeping pad, at a minimum of 100 mm (4″) above the floor or a minimum of 150 mm (6″) above unpaved ground.
  2. Access doors shall be provided to every valve, coil, filter, damper or mechanical device for inspection and/or adjustment and be within reachable distance
  3. Air cooled condenser unit shall be mounted level.
  4. Operational equipment of condensing unit, including solenoid valve, sight glass with cover and cartridge type filter, shall be mounted on a base frame.
  5. Condenser fan motors, 25 tons and larger units, shall have a separate overload relay protection. This protection shall be in addition to other built-in condenser motor protection devices
  6. Rooms or spaces other than Refrigeration Machinery Rooms where any refrigerant-containing portion of the condensing unit is located shall be provided with one of the following means of ventilation (UMC Para 1105.7)
1- Permanent gravity ventilation openings of not less than 2 square feet net free area opening directly to the outside of the building or extending to the outside of the building by continues ducts
2-Mechanical exhaust system, discharging it to the outside of the building
    Exception:
A- condensing unit in a room or space if the cubical content exceeds 1,000 cubic feet per horsepower of the unit.
B- Condensing unit in a room or space that has permanent gravity ventilation an area of 2 square feet or more to other rooms or openings exceeding 1,000 cubic feet per horsepower.
  7. Refrigeration Systems or portions thereof (Condenser) shall not be located within a required exit enclosure (UMC Para 1105.8)
