Aluminum Welded Pipe (Alloy 5083) 100% Radiographed | ASTM B 547

Scope Description Aluminum, welded, process pipe. Formed and straight, longitudinal seam welded, round, plain-end tube.
Material Specification ASTM B 547/B 547M. Alloy: 5083. Temper: O.

Base material shall be plate to ASME SB-209.

Dimensional

Specification

ASME B36.10M or ASME B36.19M for wall thickness.
Purchase Order See purchase order for DN or NPS, wall thicknesses, lengths in meters or

feet, and delivery and shipping instructions.

Lengths Pipe shall be supplied in random lengths that shall be made as long as possible without circumferential welds, but shall be a minimum of 2 m (6 ft) when practical. Specified or cut lengths shall be as specified in the purchase order, and length tolerances shall be in accordance with ASTM B 547/B 547M.
Tolerances ANSI H35.2 or H35.2(M), Section 16. For pipe sizes greater than DN300 (NPS 12) tolerances shall be as DN300 (NPS 12) except:

•    Outside Diameter = +0.5%.

•    Out of Roundness = 1% (maximum-to-minimum diameter).

•       Wall thicknesses = +0.25 mm (0.01 in) deviation from nominal thickness of base material (plate) as purchased.

Drawings Not required.
Calculations Not required.
Chemical Composition ASTM B 547/B 547M, Alloy 5083.
Mechanical Strength ASTM B 547/B 547M, Alloy 5083, Temper O.
Welding Welding procedure sheets, procedure qualification reports, and welders qualification reports shall be approved by Company prior to manufacture.
Heat Treatment ASTM B 547/B 547M, Alloy 5083, Temper O. Heat treatment to ASTM B 918 is not required.
Inspection ASTM B 547/B 547M. Inspection is not required, unless specified in the purchase order.
Testing ASTM B 547/B 547M. Pneumatic and hydrostatic tests are not required. Additional tension tests are not required.

Examination ASTM B 547/B 547M.

All pipe in the final condition, even when it contains only a single weld, shall have all welds 100% radiographically examined, using X-radiation, in accordance with paragraph UW-51 of Section VIII, Division 1 of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, and shall be in accordance with ASTM B547/B547M, Section 12, except that the criteria for acceptance shall be as required by ASME B31.3, Paragraph 302.3.4(b) for a weld joint quality factor (Ej) equal to 1.0 according to Table 302.3.4.

Certification Mill certificate or, in Europe only, inspection certificate Type 3.1 to EN 10204, for both plate and manufactured tube. Also see General Piping Material Purchase Specification. This certificate shall include results of radiographic examination, all quality assurance, and test data. The certificate shall refer to the unique pipe number.
Marking ASTM B 547/B 547M and ASTM B 666/B 666M. Marking shall also include the heat identification, a unique number for each pipe length at a distance of 300 mm (12 in) from one end, and the Commodity Code. Also see 4WPI-M00001.
Protection ASTM B 547/B 547M. Protection to ASTM B 660 is not required.
Color Coding Not required.
Packing Shipment and Packing Specification for Equipment and Materials. Suitable packing shall be provided to ensure that all items arrive at the contractual point of delivery in an undamaged condition. Refer to the purchase order for specific packing standards and instructions.
Special Requirements The hydrogen content of the product shall not exceed 0.3 ppm by mass. The finished product shall be suitable for welding. Seamless aluminum pipe per Aluminum Seamless Pipe (Alloy 5083) with the same wall schedule or thickness may be substituted for welded pipe in accordance with this specification.
