1. Purpose
This document gives detailed information regarding the Center Pipe centering that must be performed before Lower Tray installation in adsorbent tower of plants and refineries. The centering of the center pipe is checked for both towers A & B.
2. Safety Precautions
Personal protective equipment required (gloves, long sleeve working suit, protection glasses etc … )
3. Manpower
• 1 Supervisor
• 3 workers to bolt and tight the temporary beams

4. Center Pipe Centering Procedure
To check the centering of the center pipe, proceed as follows:
► Untighten the temporary beams at top and middle levels. Make sure that by doing that the center pipe is not moving too wide.
► On the top PIA inlet nozzle inside the adsorbers, install two soft wires from one bolt opening to the opposite side in order to get exactly the center of the nozzle (refer to next picture).

► On the top center pipe temporary flange, carve a mark exactly at its center.
► Then from the center of the top PIA nozzle and using a plumb, adjust the center pipe center of the top flange to be exactly centered with the center of the PIA nozzle.
► To adjust the position of the center pipe, use the adjustable temporary beams to align the center of the center pipe top flange with the center of the PIA nozzle inlet

Then, when the center pipe is perfectly centered, radius measurements are performed at different heights while all temporary beams are tight. The measurements shall be reported in the next table.

FAQs about Adsorbent Tower
-
What is an adsorbent tower?
An adsorbent tower is a vessel used in various industrial processes to remove contaminants or impurities from a gas or liquid stream. It contains adsorbent material, such as activated carbon or molecular sieves, which selectively adsorb the targeted substances.
-
How does an adsorbent tower work?
The adsorbent material inside the tower has a high surface area and affinity for specific molecules. When the gas or liquid passes through the tower, the contaminants are adsorbed onto the surface of the adsorbent, effectively purifying the stream.
-
What are the applications of adsorbent towers?
Adsorbent towers are used in various industries, including petrochemical, refining, gas processing, and water treatment. They are employed to remove impurities such as moisture, hydrocarbons, sulfur compounds, and volatile organic compounds from process streams.
-
What factors should be considered when selecting an adsorbent tower?
Factors to consider include the type and concentration of contaminants, the desired level of purification, flow rate and pressure of the stream, temperature, and the specific adsorbent material suitable for the targeted substances.
-
How often does the adsorbent material need to be replaced?
The lifespan of the adsorbent material depends on factors such as the type and concentration of contaminants, the volume of the stream being treated, and the adsorbent’s capacity. Regular monitoring and periodic replacement or regeneration of the adsorbent are necessary to ensure optimal performance of the tower.
