This article is about Copper Pipe Installation Guide and Method Statement and Technical Requirement in commercial buildings, plants and refinery projects related to Plumbing Engineering System as per international codes and standards.
Copper Pipe Installation Guide | Method Statement
- Copper tube and fittings shall be joined (Soldered, Brazed, flared joint or compression type) in accordance with the procedures and techniques specified in Copper Tube Handbook of the Copper Development Association, IAPMO IS 3-93 or any other approved (by Saudi Aramco) procedures
- Fitting shall be in accordance with ASME B 16.22 for solder or brazed joint.
- Brazing wire for different services shall be as shown in table below:
Service | Brazing Wire | |||||||||||||||||||||||
Potable Water | AWS Bag-7 AWS BCuP-5 |
|||||||||||||||||||||||
Non-Potable Water (Including Firewater) and Instrument Air | AWS Bag-3 AWS Bag-7 AWS BCuP-5 |
|||||||||||||||||||||||
Other Services | Any of the above plus 95/5 tin-antimony solder 50/50 tin-lead solder |
- Copper tubing (Line Class 12BC0U) shall not be used for firewater system in blast resistant control buildings
Note: 12 BD0U or approved equal shall be used for firewater system in blast resistant control building. - Copper tube below ground shall be type “K”.
- Copper tube for water piping shall have a weight of not less than Type “L”
- Connections between Cement lined Carbon steel(12LC0U) and 12BD0U or 12BC0U shall be made with an isolation gasket, such as Pikotek or equal, or a dielectric union
Note: Cathodic protection, if provided, must be on separate circuits for the different materials. Care must be taken to assure that the isolated joint is not short-circuited by pipe supports” - Connections between cement-lined steel pipe and the same size Copper-Nickel pipe shall be made with an isolated, flanged joint in accordance with Saudi Aramco Standard Drawing AA-036865.
Note: The raised face of the cement-lined steel flange shall be machined off to accommodate the connection to the flat-faced Copper-Nickel flange. - Connections between a larger cement-lined steel header and Copper-Nickel pipe shall be accomplished with special cement-lined, flanged tees with a 4-inch minimum size branch.
- Connections between any dissimilar metals shall be by means of a dielectric or insulating union
- The flanged branch connection to the Copper-Nickel pipe shall be isolated in accordance with Saudi Aramco Standard Drawing AA-036865.
Note: Copper-Nickel reducer may be used to obtain the desired pipe size. Welding bosses shall not be used. - Identification: Color coding of Utility (Water & DWV) Piping System
- All underground Utility (Water & DWV) Piping, shall shall have color identification band to designate the liquid being conveyed in accordance with Table 3 of SAES-A-104, SAES-B-067 and Saudi Aramco Sanitary Code, GI-0151.006 and the direction of normal flow shall be clearly shown at the piping entering and leaving the valve box for Utility (Water) piping while for Utility (DWV / sewer) piping at the manhole covers. Minimum length of color field and size of letter shall be in accordance with the table shown below:
- All above ground Utility (Water & DWV) Piping, shall have color identification band to designate the liquid being conveyed in accordance with Table 3 of SAES-A-104, SAES-B-067 and Saudi Aramco Sanitary Code, GI-0151.006 and the direction of normal flow shall be clearly shown at every 20 ft (6096 mm) intervals. Minimum length of color field and size of letter shall be in accordance with the table shown below:
