SCOPE
This standard outlines the procedure for assigning numbering for Electrical Equipments Tags,
Communication and Fire Alarm Equipments Tags.
This numbering system assigns a unique number to each Electrical Equipment Tag,
Communication and Fire Alarm Equipment Tag in the plant.
1.1
In an existing plant the contractor shall assign new equipment Tag numbers shall be
as per respective affiliate numbering procedure.
1.2 SABIC shall approve the equipment Tag numbers that are assigned by the
CONTRACTOR(s).
1.3 All equipment within a Vendor supplied package shall also be assigned equipment
Tag numbers in accordance with this procedure.
2 NUMBERING SYSTEM FORMAT

be as follows:
a) New Plants: EPC contractor shall assign unit numbers to the
specific plant. This numbers shall be from 00 to 99.
b) New Area in Existing Plants: SABIC E & PM will assign the Unit
numbers for Grass root area in existing plant upon request from EPC
contractor.
Equipment Category Code: This is five (5) characters code for each piece of
electrical equipment
Refer to Section 3.1 below for code designations.
Voltage Number: The voltage number is a two (2) digit number that identifies the
voltage level as follows:
01 – 115kV and above
10 – 34.5kV
20 – 13.8kV
30 –
4.16kV and 2.4kV
40 – 480V and below
For power transformers the voltage number shall be based on the transformers
secondary voltage level.
Serial Number: The serial number is a two (2) digit number that starts at 01.Each
piece of electrical equipment has a serial number for its category and substation.
Substations do not have serial number.
Single Letter Identifier: A single letter (usually starts at A) is used to identify two
or more identical pieces of equipment in the same service, such as a shared serial
number by two transformers connected to the same double ended switchgear or a
shared serial number by two battery chargers connected to a set of battery.
Additional Number Sequence Identifier: An additional number sequence
identifier shall be used such as two or more Motor Control Centres connected to the
same source bus (see example 3).
