3 Addenda

The following section, subsection and paragraph numbers refer to PIP RES P73H, October
1997.
Introduction
1.1 Add the following new paragraphs:
1.1.1 This specification supplements the datasheets on which the operating
conditions and special requirements are listed in detail for each individual
pump. Whenever the data included on the individual datasheets conflict with
this specification, Vendor shall resolve conflicts with SABIC.
1.1.2 Compliance with this specification does not relieve Pump Vendor of the
responsibility of furnishing pumps and accessories of proper design,
mechanically suited to meet operating guarantees at the specified service
conditions. Nor does it relieve pump Vendor of the responsibility of furnishing
equipment assembled and prepared for shipment in a professional manner.
1.1.3 Vendors qualified by experience manufacturing the proposed units shall
supply pumps. To qualify, the Vendor shall have manufactured at least two
(2) pumps of comparable size, model, power rating, and speed in similar
service as indicated in the individual specification and data sheets. These
pumps shall have completed at least 8000 hours of continuous operation
satisfactorily.
1.1.4 Pumps supplied to this standard are limited to the following service limits:

4 References

a. Discharge pressure does not exceed 1900 kPa (275 psig).
b. Suction pressure does not exceed 500 kPa (75 psig).
c. The temperature of the pumped liquids is not less then -40°C and does
not exceed 149°C.
d. The vapor pressure of the pumped liquid is less 100 kPa (14 psia) at
66°C.
e. The driver nameplate rating (excluding any service factor) does not
exceed 112kW (150 h.p.).

Substitute the following PIP’s with SES’s
PIP RES P002 with SES G01-S04
PIP REIE 686 with SES G02-C01
PIP ELSMT01 with SES E06-S01

Section 4 – Design and Construction Features
4.1.4 Hydraulic selection Criteria
Modify first sentence:
Replace “Preferred” with “required”
4.1.4.2 Add the following sentence:
Pumps with a rated capacity greater than 10 percent beyond the “best
efficiency point” (BEP) flow on the head capacity curve f or the proposed
impeller are not acceptable.
4.1.4.6 Add the following sentence:
All curves shall be based on S.G. of 1.0 at 20°C and shall indicate any
effects of the viscosity of the liquid being pumped. Viscosity correction
factors in accordance with the Hydraulic Institute Standards shall be applied.
4.1.4.11 Add the following new paragraph:
4.3 Casing
Equipment covered in this specification shall be designed to operate in the
conditions stated on the data sheets. Unless otherwise specified, the
maximum sound levels shall be 85 dBA at 1 meter from the equipment
surface.

4.3.1 Add the following sentence:

A piped and valved drain connection is required for all pumps. It shall be
located so to permit complete drainage of the casing and shall be accessible
for operation while the pump is located on it’s to grouted baseplate.

4.6 Shaft Sealing
4.6.1 Design
4.6.1.9 Add the following new paragraph:
The seal gland and its component parts shall be satisfactory for
the maximum seal chamber design pressure and pumping
temperature.
4.6.1.10 All glands and seal parts shall be supplied by the seal Vendor. The
seal drawing shall be made by the seal Vendor and not the
Vendor.
4.6.1.11 On pumps whose seals required final adjustment or installation in
the field, the Vendor shall attach a metal tag warning of this
requirement.

4.7 Bearings and Bearing Housings
4.7.1 Design
Add the following paragraph:
The thrust bearings are to be duplex, 40° angular contact, back-to back
assembly’s ground as matched sets. The bearing housing is to be the heavyduty

design commonly referred to as “ANSI PLUS” to accommodate the
largest shaft and largest bearings available in the manufacturer’s ANSI pump
line.
4.7.2 Modify the last two sentences as following
Bearings shall be selected to give a three year (26,000 hr) minimum AFBMA
L-10 rating life, with continuous operation at design load and rated pump
conditions.
4.7.5.2 Add the following:
The Oiler shall be provided with a positive level positioned, heat
resistant glass container, and a protective wire cage.

4.13 Auxiliary Piping
4.13.1 Add the following sentence:
Terminal connections shall not extended beyond the perimeter of the
baseplate.

5 General Information

5.1.3 Add the following as the second sentence.
Sound pressure levels shall be in accordance with SES S20-G01.

5.3 Nameplates
Modify as follows:
The purchaser’s item number, rated capacity, differential head, speed (rpm) and
bearing manufacturer’s identify numbers shall be included on this or a separate plate.

5.4 Preparation for Shipment
5.4.3 Add the following sentence:
All auxiliary piping system shall be furnished by the vendor fully assembled,
cleaned and dried

7 Drivers, Couplings, and Baseplates

7.1 Driver Selection
Substitute “PIP ELSMTOI” with “SES E06-S01”

7.2 Couplings
7.2.2 Delete this paragraph
7.2.7 Add the following new paragraph
The pump vendor shall mount the coupling.

7.3 BasePlate
7.3.1 Replace “PIP RES P002” with SES “G04-S01”
7.3.2
7.4 Shaft Alignment
7.4.1 Replace PIP REIE686 with SES”G20-C01”

8 Documentation

Appendix A

A 2.3.6.a Add the following:
Additionally, the eye area of the impeller, suction specific speed, and minimum continues
flowrates shall be shown. This curve shall be included with the vendor’s proposal.
