This article is about HVAC Chilled Water Piping Lay-out and Support as per International Codes and standards.
HVAC Chilled Water Piping Lay-out and Support
- Chilled water piping systems shall include a valved, potable water make-up connection.
- The make-up water connection shall be provided with shut-off valve and reduced pressure type backflow preventer
- Dissimilar metal piping connections, shall comply with the following:
1) Be exposed and accessible, this shall include valved connections.
2) Provided with insulating unions or insulating flange sets.” - Automatic air vents shall be provided at the, or close to the highest elevation within a chilled water system .
- “Low Flow” switches shall be installed on the pump suction lines.
- Each equipment unit shall be installed at the location indicated on the drawings and in accordance with details of mounting, with vibration isolation as required by the Design Specifications.
- Sanitary lines that , due to existing conditions must crossover a potable water line (chilled water line) regardless of vertical separation; and must have less than 300 mm clear separation even though running beneath the potable water line, shall meet one of the following requirements:
a) The Sanitary line crossing a potable water line (Chilled water line) shall be one continuous joint of pipe and both ends of that force main shall be at least 3 meters beyond the point of crossing
b) The sanitary line shall be encased in a concrete sheath for a minimum distance of 3 meters in both directions beyond the crossing point. The concrete sheath shall be at least 150 mm thick. Plastic pipes such as RTR piping and fittings shall be wrapped with neoprene wrapping at the edges of concrete encasement. The wrapping must protrude slightly from the concrete encasement. The thickness and the width of wrap shall comply with the Table-4 of SAES-S-070 below.
c) Sanitary shall be encased in a sealed casing of either steel sleeve, PVC or RTR pipe for a minimum distance of 3 meters, in both directions beyond the point of crossing.
