HVAC Exhaust Hood Receiving, Handling and Preservation

Receiving

Labotary Hood

Contractor shall visually inspect all incoming material (Hoods and apparatus) for damage.
Steel Hoods shall have base metal thickness of not less than what is shown in table below: (UMC Para 505.7).

1 0.027 inch (0.68 mm) (22 gauge)
2 0.033 inch (0.84 mm) (20 gauge)
3 0.044 inch (1.12 mm) (18 gauge)
4 0.068 inch (1.73 mm) (14 gauge)
5 0.027 inch (0.68 mm) (22 gauge)

Classification is as per Section 506 of UMC.

  1. Metal hoods used with class 5 duct system shall be protected with suitable corrosion-resistant material approved by Saudi Aramco)

Commercial Kitchen Hood (Type I & II)

  1. Type I and II hoods** shall be constructed of galvanized steel, stainless steel, or other material approved by Saudi Aramco for the use intended (UMC Para 508.2)
  2. Type is as per UMC Para 507.2 definitions”
  3. Type I hoods constructed of galvanized steel shall be at least 0.030 inch (0.76 mm) (No. 22 gauge)
    (UMC Para 508.2.1)”
  4. Joints and seams shall be made with a continuous liquid-tight weld or braze made on the external surface of the duct system (UMC 507.3.2)
  5. Type II hoods shall be constructed of at least 0.024-inch (0.61mm) (No. 24 gauge) steel (UMC Para 508.2.2)
  6. Type II hoods constructed of stainless steel shall have a minimum thickness of 0.030 inch (0.76 mm)
    (UMC Para 508.2.2)”
  7. Type II hoods constructed of copper shall be of copper sheet weighing at least 24 ounces per square feet (UMC Para 508.2.2)

Handling, Storage and Preservation

Verify that approved procedures for handling, storage and preservation of the materials lists all the required inspection schedules for maintaining the quality of the material and /or equipment.
