1.0 Scope
This standard outlined procedure describe for assigning numbering for identification of the
instruments.
This numbering system assigns a unique number to each Instrument in the plant.
2.1 In an Existing Plant, the assignment of instrument Tag numbers shall be as per
respective affiliate numbering procedure.
2.2 SABIC E&PM approval shall be required for assignment of any Tag number.
2.3 All instrument within a vendor supplied package shall also be assigned Tag numbers
according to this procedure.

Instrument Numbering System Format
Unit Number: This is two (2) digit numbers. The assignment of numbers shall be as
follows:
a) New Plants: EPC contractor shall assign unit numbers to the specific
plant. This numbers shall be from 00 to 99.
b) New area in Existing Plants: SABIC E&PM will assign the unit
numbers for Grass Root Area in existing plant upon request from EPC
Contractor.
Instrument Symbol: This is six (6) alpha character codes.
Sequence Number: This is three (3) digit number and shall be sequential starting with
001.
Suffix : One alpha character to identify each of the multiple instruments in the same
service.
Example : 20-FV-123A

Interlocks & Alarms Numbering Format
Interlock / Shutdown
Unit Number: This is two (2) digit numbers. The assignment of numbers shall be as
follows:
a) New Plants: EPC contractor shall assign unit numbers to the specific
plant. This numbers shall be from 00 to 99.
b) New area in Existing Plants: SABIC E&PM will assign the unit
numbers for Grass Root Area in existing plant upon request.
Instrument Symbol: Use āSā for Safety related and āIā for all other Interlocks.
Sequence Number: This is one(1) or two(2) digit number and shall be sequential
starting with 1.
