This article is about Irrigation Piping layout Design and Material Selection and Technical Requirement in commercial buildings, plants and refinery projects related to Plumbing Engineering System as per international codes and standards.
Irrigation Piping layout Design and Material Selection
- Following are the acceptable materials for irrigation piping network. Those materials marked with double asterisks (**) shall be used for the replacement or repair of existing piping of the same type only.
a) 12PVOU ; PVC, SASO SSA/14/15, Class 5.
b) **PVC, ASTM D1785, Schedule 80 for lines 2 inches through 6 inches nominal diameter.
c) High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipe, per ASTM D3350, ASTM F1248 and ASTM F714.” - Appropriate advisory signs in Arabic and English shall be permanently posted at all reclaimed wastewater surface impoundments, storage tanks, irrigation areas, reclaimed water outlets, etc.
- No connection between the potable water supply and a reclaimed wastewater system shall be permitted.
- All reclaimed wastewater valves, outlets, quick couplers, and sprinkler heads shall be of a type or secured in a manner that only permits operation by personnel authorized by the Proponent Operating Department
- Signs shall be posted in areas where reclaimed waste water is being used, to warn the public that reclaimed wastewater is being used and that they should not drink the water. These signs shall include both a pictorial representation of the danger and a written warning
- Minimum Distance to be maintained from area irrigated with recalimed wastewater shall be 150 meter from water wells
- Minimum Distance to be maintained from area irrigated with recalimed wastewater shall be 15 meter from water lines
Note: This buffer zone applies to spray irrigation areas only” - Remote-control valves shall be used in irrigation system for different zones
- Any reuse of reclaimed wastewater for irrigation requires approval of the General Supervisor, Environmental Engineering Division with the concurrence of the General Supervisor of Environmental Compliance Division.
- No irrigation with reclaimed wastewater, or storage of this water shall be allowed within 150 m of any well used for domestic supply
- A backflow preventer (BFP) shall be installed between a water distribution sytem and an irrigation piping network.
- A backflow preventer (BFP) shall be installed on every sprinkler circuit of irrigation piping network downstream the remote control valve.
- All BFP assemblies shall conform to AWWA C510; C511 or Saudi Aramco recognized industry standard. These assemblies shall be certified or listed by the agengies approved by the chairman of Plumbing & Utilities Standard Committee.
- Irrigation systems that combine raw water with reclaimed water shall have approved (acceptable to the Authority Having Jurisdiction) reduced pressure backflow prevention devices
- Irrigation systems that combine raw water with reclaimed water shall have an air-gap separation of 0.15 m.
- Minimum clear distance between raw and drinking water lines, if installed in the same trench, shall be 300 mm.
- Reclaimed wastewater piping used for irrigation system shall be color coded in accordance with Table 3 and section 4.1.2.7 of SAES-A-104. These color-coding requirements are applicable for all wastewater piping, below or above ground – inside and outside of the wastewater treatment facility.
- Requirements for the separation of reclaimed wastewater lines from sewer lines are given in Table 7 of SAES-A-104. When protecting domestic water lines from reclaimed water, the reclaimed water shall be considered a sewer.
