1. Back Flow Prevention (BFP) assembly, shall be installed between a water distribution system and an irrigation piping network.
2. BFP assembly shall be installed on every sprinkler circuit of irrigation piping network downstream from the remote-control valve.
3. Where sprinklers and irrigation systems have pumps, connections for pumping equipment, auxiliary air tanks or are otherwise capable of creating back-pressure, the potable water supply shall be protected by the following type of device if the backflow device is located upstream from the source of back-pressure.( UPC Para 603.4.6.2 )
   1) Reduced pressure backflow preventer.
4. Appropriate advisory signs in Arabic and English shall be permanently posted at all reclaimed wastewater surface impoundments, storage tanks, irrigation areas, reclaimed water outlets, etc.
   Remote-control valves shall be used in irrigation system.

Treated Wastewater Quality for Irrigation System

1. Reuse of treated wastewater (effluent) requires written approval of the Manager, EPD.
2. All wastewater to be used for irrigation in an unrestricted area shall be a well oxidized, tertiary treated effluent and shall be free from enteric viruses.
3. All wastewater to be used for irrigation in restricted area shall be a well oxidized, filtered disinfected effluent and area shall be provided with a Saudi Aramco Type V security fence.
4. The total coliforms shall normally be less than 2.2 calories per 100 ml sample and shall not exceed 23 calories per 100 ml on any individual grab sample.
5. The total chlorine residual of at least 0.50 mg/l (0.5 ppm) shall be maintained in all parts of the irrigation system at all times.
