Low-Temperature Steel, Special, Set-on Branch Fittings (A 350, Grade LF2)

This article is about Low-Temperature Steel, Special, Set-on Branch Fittings (A 350, Grade LF2) and technical specification based on international codes and standards of ASTM A 350/A 350M. Grade: LF2. Class: 1.

Low-Temperature Steel, Special, Set-on Branch Fittings (A 350, Grade LF2)

Scope Description Low-temperature steel, forged, set-on branch pipe fittings to the supplier’s standard dimensions. (Integrally Reinforced Forged Branch Outlet Fittings-Socket Welding, Threaded, and Butt-Welding Ends, e.g., weldolets, sockolets, thredolets, and elbolets.)

Note: These fittings are outside the range of MSS SP-97.

Material Specification ASTM A350/A 350M. Grade: LF2. Class: 1.
Dimensional Specification Supplier’s standard. Threads shall be NPT according to ASME B1.20.1 unless otherwise stated on the purchase order as ISO or BSP. When specified as ISO or BSP, the threads shall be tapered according to ISO 7/1 or BS 21 (BSP).
Purchase Order See purchase order for type of fitting, DN or NPS, fitting pressure class, schedule or weight class or wall thickness of branch, number of pieces, and delivery and shipping instructions.
Lengths Not applicable.
Tolerances Supplier’s standard.
Drawings Required with supplier’s quotation.
Calculations Set-on branch fittings to this specification shall meet the design proof or calculation requirements of ASME B31.3. Submission of calculations is not required.
Chemical Composition ASTM A 350/A 350M, Grade LF2. Also by ladle analysis the carbon content shall be 0.23% maximum and Supplementary Requirement S6 is required and CE shall be 0.45% maximum.
Mechanical Strength ASTM A 350/A 350M, Grade LF2. The maximum tensile strength shall not be more than 635 N/mm2 (92 ksi).
Welding Not allowed.
Heat Treatment ASTM A 350/A 350M, Grade LF2. All fittings shall be normalized.
Inspection ASTM A350/A 350M. Air Products inspection is not required unless specified in the purchase order or required by the certification for this specification.
Testing ASTM A350/A 350M, Grade LF2, Class 1.
Examination ASTM A350/A 350M.
Certification Items DN25 (NPS 1) and smaller shall be provided with an EN 10204 Type 3.1 inspection certificate.

Company  for all other items shall be one of the following:

  • EN 10204 Type 3.2 inspection certificate also certified by a representative of Air Products.
  • EN 10204 Type 3.1 inspection certificate from material manufacturers that have quality assurance systems certified by a competent body established in the European Community.

Representative may be from any Inspection Body acceptable to Air Products or alternatively a person nominated by Air Products. The supplier shall contact Air Products’ Inspection Department to establish who may be Air Products’ representative when applicable.

Also see General Piping Material Purchase Specification.

Marking MSS SP-25.

Marking shall also include the CAD Commodity Code (also see General Piping Material Purchase Specification.

Protection Fittings shall be delivered free from corrosion or oxidation. A protective coating of light oil or varnish corrosion inhibitor may be used. This inhibitor shall be easily removable, and the supplier shall state with his quotation the method for removal.
Color Coding Not required.
Packing 4WGN-10001. Suitable packing shall be provided to ensure that all items arrive at the contractual point of delivery in an undamaged condition. Refer to the purchase order for specific packing standards and instructions.
Special Requirements Fittings should always be selected based on the run pipe schedule, not the branch schedule. Where a non-standard schedule is specified, the next highest schedule specified in MSS SP-97 should be selected and the fitting prepped to suit.
Application Notes Low-temperature steel, forged, set-on branch pipe fittings to the supplier’s standard dimensions to the PED. (Note: These fittings are outside of the range of MSS SP-97.)

Pressure: As calculated for equivalent header pipe.

Temperature: -29° to +427°C (-20° to +800°F).

Note: This engineering specification shall be used in conjunction with General Piping Material Purchase Specification.
