General
Disconnecting means must be clearly labeled to identify their purpose. This label must be durable enough to withstand the environment it is in. The label should be specific, such as “motor, water pump” instead of just “motor,” and “lights, front lobby” instead of just “lights.” In addition, Section 408.4 and its related commentary provide additional requirements and information on circuit directories for switchboards and panelboards.
(B) Engineered Series Combination Systems.
Equipment enclosures for circuit breakers or fuses used with series combination ratings selected under engineering supervision must be clearly labeled. This label must be visible and state that the equipment was applied with a series combination rating. The engineer must provide directions on how to label the equipment. The marking shall be readily visible and state the following:
The enclosures of overcurrent devices with series ratings determined under engineering supervision must be labeled according to Section 110.22(B). The label should indicate the series combination rating used. It is important to follow warnings on replacement components to ensure the same level of protection is maintained.
(C) Tested Series Combination Systems.
Equipment enclosures with circuit breakers or fuses applied with the series combination ratings marked by the manufacturer must be labeled. This label should be visible and state that the equipment was applied with a series combination rating. The marking shall be readily visible and state the following:
Section 110.22(C) requires that enclosures of tested series combination systems be labeled. The equipment manufacturer can mark the equipment for series combination ratings. If installed in the field at its marked series combination rating, an additional label must be added to indicate that the series combination rating was used.
