NEC Article 110.30 General Technical Information
Equipment and conductors used on circuits that are higher than 600 volts must follow the rules in Part I of Article 110, as well as 110.30 to 110.40. These rules do not apply to equipment on the supply side of the service point. Equipment and conductors on circuits lower than 600 volts must follow the rules in Part III of Article 110. Equipment on the supply side of the service point is covered by the National Electrical Safety Code, published by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
The NEC III (National Electric Code, Third Edition) is an international standard for the safe installation, operation and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment. It is the basis of the US National Electrical Code (NEC) and is also recognized by many countries around the world. It is applicable to all types of electrical installations and applies to systems operating over 600 volts nominal.
The NEC III is divided into four sections, each of which contains a number of articles. These sections cover the general requirements for all electrical systems, specialized wiring methods, special equipment, and related safety considerations. Each article addresses a specific type of installation or equipment, and includes detailed requirements for installation, operation, and maintenance.
The NEC III requires that all electrical systems and equipment be installed in accordance with approved designs, and that all wiring and equipment be approved and tested by a qualified installer. It also requires that all wiring and equipment be properly labeled and that all systems and equipment be regularly inspected and maintained.
The NEC III also sets out the requirements for electrical system testing. This includes the testing of circuit wiring and components, the testing of overcurrent protection devices, and the testing of ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) circuits. It also requires that electrical systems be tested and inspected periodically to ensure that they remain safe and in good working order.
The NEC III also sets out the requirements for the installation and use of lightning protection systems, surge protection systems, and ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCI). It also includes requirements for the installation of surge-protected outlets and the use of other safety devices, such as ground fault circuit interrupters, to reduce the risk of electric shock.
Finally, the NEC III requires that all electrical systems and equipment be installed and maintained in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and the applicable local and state codes. This includes the use of approved materials, tools, and techniques, and the use of appropriate safety measures.
The NEC III is an important part of the electrical safety system. It provides guidance and requirements to ensure that all electrical systems and equipment are installed and maintained in accordance with accepted safety standards. As such, it is essential that all electrical systems and equipment over 600 volts nominal be installed and maintained in accordance with the NEC III.
