Plumbing Fixtures Installation as per International Codes & Standards

General

  1. Plumbing Fixtures shall be installed in a manner to afford easy access for repairs and cleaning (UPC Para 408.1)
  2. Flush tanks and similar appurtenances shall be secured by the use of approved (acceptable to the Authority Having Jurisdiction) non-corrosive bolts or screws. (UPC Para 408.3)
  3. Where a fixture comes in contact with the wall or floor, the joint between the fixture and the wall or floor shall be made watertight (UPC Para 408.2).
  4. All plumbing fixtures other than water closets and urinals, shall be equipped with approved strainers (UPC Para 405.1).
  5. Fixtures having concealed slip joint connectors shall be provided with an access panel or utility space at least twelve (12) inches in its least dimension. (UPC Para 405.2)
  6. Wall-hung fixtures shall be rigidly supported by metal supporting members (UPC Para 408.4)
  7. Fixtures shall be set level and in proper alignment with reference to adjacent walls (UPC Para 408.6)
  8. Facilities for handicapped shall be installed in accordance to Construction Drawings and Specifications (UPC para 408.7)

Water Closets and Bidet

  1. Floor-mounted, back-outlet water closet bowls shall be set level with an angle of ninety (90) degrees between the floor and wall at the centerline of the fixture outlet. The floor and wall shall have a flat mounting surface of five (5) inches to the right and left of the fixture outlet centerline. (UPC Para 408.5).
  2. No water closet or bidet shall be set closer than fifteen (15) inches from its center to any side wall or obstruction. (UPC Para 408.6)
  3. No water closet or bidet shall be set closer than thirty (30) inches center to center to any similar fixtures (UPC Para 408.6)
  4. The clear space in front of any water closet or bidet shall not be less than twenty four (24) inches (UPC Para 408.6)

Urinals

  1. No urinals shall be set closer than twelve (12) inches from its center to any side wall or partition. (UPC parta 408.6)
  2. No urinals shall be set closet than twenty four (24) inches center to center. (UPC parta 408.6)

Floor Drains and Shower Stalls

  1. Toilet rooms in all buildings, except single-family residence, shall be provided with floor drain. Also see item below
  2. Floor drain shall be installed in commercial kitchens and laundry rooms in commercial buildings and common laundry facilities in multi-family dwelling buildings.
  3. Floor drains shall be provided with an approved type of strainer.
  4. Floor shall be sloped to floor drains where drainage occurs in regular or frequent basis, or as otherwise required by Chairman of Plumbing and Utilities Standard Committee. (UPC Para 412.4).
  5. Each shower receptor shall have a finished dam, curb, or threshold which is at least one (1) inch lower than the sides and back of such receptor (UPC Para 412.6).
  6. Measured distance from the top of the dam or threshold to the top of the drain shall be a minimum of two (2) inches and Maximum of nine (9) inches (UPC Para 412.6).
  7. Shower doors shall open so as to maintain a minimum twenty-two (22) inches unobstructed opening for egress (UPC 4212.6).

Flushing Devices

  1. Each water closet, urinal, clinic sink, or other plumbing fixture which depends on trap siphonage to discharge its waste contents shall be provided with a flushometer valve, flushometer tank or flush tank. Flushing devices shall meet all anti-siphon requirements. (UPC Para 411.1).
  2. Tanks flushing more than one (1) urinal shall be automatic in operation and of sufficient capacity to provide the necessary volume to flush and properly cleanse all urinals simultaneously.
  3. Automatically controlled flushometer valves may be substituted for flush tanks (UPC Para 411.2)
  4. No manually controlled flushometer valve shall be used to flush more than one (1) urinal (UPC Para 411.3)
  5. Flushometers shall be installed so that they will be accessible for repair(UPC Para 411.3) .
  6. When the valve is operated, it shall complete the cycle of operation automatically, opening fully and closing positively under the line water pressure. Each flushometer shall be provided with a means for regulating the flow through it. (UPC Para 411.3)
  7. Flush valve seats in tanks for flushing water closets shall be at least one (1) inch (25.4mm) above the flood level rim of the bowl connected thereto,
    Exception : Above does not apply to approved water closet and flush tank combinations designed so that when the tank is flushed and the fixture is clogged, the flush valve closes tightly so that water does not spill continuously over the rim of the bowl or backflow from the bowl to the tank. (UPC Para 411.5) “
  8. Flush tanks shall be provided with overflows discharging into the water closet or urinal connected thereto . (UPC Para 411.6)

Miscellaneous items

  1. Water closet and Urinal Flushometer Valves shall be equipped with a listed atmospheric vacuum breaker. (UPC 603.4.1)
  2. A pressure type anti-siphon valve shall be used on each hose connection such as hammam ablution hoses, gardening hoses, etc.
