set forth on the Data Sheets, Project Specifications or by the Purchase Order.
2.2 Pumps shall be supplied by the vendors qualified by experience in manufacturing the proposed units. To qualify,
the vendor shall have manufactured at least two (2) pumps of comparable size, model, power rating, speed in the
similar service as indicated in the individual specification and Data Sheets. These pumps shall have completed at least
8000 hours of continuous operation satisfactorily.
3. Addenda
The following section, subsection, paragraph numbers refer to API 674, Second Edition.
Section 1 – General
1.3 Conflicting Requirements
Add the following paragraph:
Any conflict between this standard and other contract or procurement documents, unless specifically indicated as an
exception, shall be resolved at the discretion of SABIC.
1.5 Referenced Publications
1.5.1 Add the following paragraph:
SABIC Engineering Standards (SES)
E06-S01 Induction Motors 150 kW (200 HP) and Below
E06-S02 Induction Motors Above 185 kW (250 HP) and Above
G03-S01 Lubrication, Shaft Sealing, Control Oil Systems and Auxiliaries
G06-S01 General Purpose Steam Turbines
G20-C01 Installation of Rotating Machinery and Criteria for Installation Design
S20-G01 Plant Equipment Noise Levels
Section 2 – Basic Design
2.1 General
2.1.4 Substitute the requirement as follows:
Control of the sound pressure level (SPL) to meet specified requirements shall be the responsibility of the vendor.
Unless otherwise specified, the maximum sound level shall be 85 dBA at 1 meter from the equipment surface. See
SES S20-G01
2.1.12 Add the following paragraph:
Unless otherwise specified, pumps and auxiliaries shall be designed for operation in unprotected outdoor installation.
Specific site climatic conditions shall be used for the pumps and auxiliaries design. As a minimum, following provisions
shall be included:
a. Dust seal or cover
b. Filter for breather or vent cap
c. Purge connection for the crank-case.
2.6 Liquid End Appurtenances
2.6.2 Pistons, Plungers, and Piston Rods
2.6.2.4 Add the following paragraph:
Hollow plungers shall have at least 3.2 mm (1/8 in) excess wall thickness. Removable plugs shall be of 18 Cr 8 Ni
steel. Plungers shall have provisions for water cooling if the pumping temperature exceeds 175°C (350°F).
2.6.2.7 Add the following new paragraph:
Outside-end-packed plungers shall have crossheads with lubricated sliding supports, inboard and outboard, if pump
stroke exceeds 305 mm (12 in).
2.6.3 Valve Seats
Add the following paragraph:
The valves for each cylinder shall be accessible through bolted valve covers without major disassembly of the liquid
end or disturbance to other cylinders or piping. Designs requiring removal of entire suction or discharge header blocks
to gain access to an individual valve are not acceptable without SABIC approval.
2.6.4 Gaskets
Add the following paragraph:
The vendor shall use solid metal, metal clad, or confined and compression-restricted, spiral-wound metal, nonasbestos
filled gaskets for temperatures over 260°C (500°F).
2.6.6 Stuffing Boxes, Packing and Glands
2.6.6.7 Add the following sentence:
The lantern ring shall be split type with threaded holes for it’s removal.
2.6.6.9 Add the following new paragraph:
When pumping fluids with a high vapor pressure [greater than 101.3 kpa (14.7 psia) at pumping temperature], a double
packing gland assembly with connections for venting to a safe area, shall be provided.
2.6.6.10 Add the following new paragraph:
Asbestos rod packing is not acceptable.
2.7 Power End Running Gear
2.7.1 Delete the following from this paragraph:
When specified.
2.7.2 Add the following paragraph:
Extended drive shaft construction shall be used on belt driven units. The bearings and crankcase shall be suitable for
the sideloads imposed by the drive.
2.7.6 Add the following sentence:
The frame shall be of adequate strength to prevent failure under stall or maximum relief valve setting conditions.
2.9 Lubrication
2.9.1 Lubrication, Power Pumps
2.9.1.2 Add the following sentence:
Lube oil sumps shall be provided with ‘Bulls Eye’ type oil level indicator.
2.9.1.6 Modify the paragraph as follows:
A power end pressure lubrication system shall include a pressure transmitter for low oil pressure alarm and separate
pressure transmitter for low oil pressure shutdown and alarm.
2.9.1.7 Add the following paragraph:
The pre-lube pump shall be capable of wetting all internal bearing, bushing, gear washing sliding surfaces, and shall be
piped to discharge through the oil filter(s).
2.9.2 Lubrication, Liquid End, and Gas End
2.9.2.1 The decision is as follows:
Unless otherwise specified, a mechanical lubricator shall be furnished for lubrication of the stuffing box and any other
points requiring lubrication.
