2 Basic Design
2.1 General
2.1.3 Add the following note:
A single speed positive displacement rotary pump essentially has only one flow rate, which has to match
the normal operating point specified. Due to the normal phenomenon of slip in rotary pumps, flow rate will
appear to diminish with increased differential pressure or reduced viscosity of the pumped fluid. The rated
differential pressure, maximum viscosity and rated flow rate set the rated power requirements for the
pump.

2.1.4 Add the following sentences:
Unless otherwise specified, the maximum allowable sound pressure level for the pump, its drive train and
accessories shall be 85 dBA at 1 m. See SES S20-G01.
2.1.7 Add the following sentence:
Motors shall also conform to SES E02-E02.
2.1.11 Substitute the paragraph as follows:
Unless otherwise specified, pumps and their auxiliaries shall be suitable for outdoor installation in an
operating facility in Saudi Arabia. SABIC will note design atmospheric conditions on the pump data sheets.
2.1.14 Add the following new paragraph:
Pumps shall be supplied by vendors qualified by experience in manufacturing the proposed equipment. To
qualify, vendor shall have manufactured, at the proposed point of manufacture, at least two pumps of
comparable flow rate, differential pressure and speed. These pumps shall have been in service and
performing satisfactorily for at least one year. Vendor shall provide, upon request, a detailed user list of
pumps in service in similar applications.
2.2 Pressure Casings

Vendor’s proposal shall clearly state if the pump design offered includes a removable casing liner.
2.2.10 Add the following new paragraph:
Chrome plating or other types of hard surface coating of the pump casing bore shall not be allowed without
specific SABIC permission.
2.3 Casing Connections
2.3.1 The decision is as follows:

2.3.6.4 Substitute the paragraph as follows:
Connections other than those covered by ASME B16.5 or ASME B16.47 shall require SABIC’s written
approval. When other connections are allowed, the mating vendor shall furnish the parts.
2.5 Rotating Elements
2.5.2 Substitute the paragraph as follows:
Rotors and shafts shall be of sufficient stiffness and material compatibility to prevent wear between the
rotor bodies and casing, and between gear timed rotor bodies, at the most unfavorable specified condition,
including 110 percent of the relief valve set pressure. Rotor bodies not integral with the shaft shall be
securely fixed to the shaft to prevent unintended relative motion under any operating condition. Separate
rotor bodies on larger pumps shall be fixed using keys and high torque locknuts. Pins or setscrews may
only be used to secure the rotor bodies on pumps with a differential pressure less than 2 MPa.
2.5.3 Add the following sentences

sliding gasket or a bellows between the axially movable face and the shaft sleeve or housing. Unbalanced
seals shall be furnished when specified or approved by SABIC. Other special configurations may be
specified, or the vendor may recommend them, if required for the service. Cartridge seals shall be
required unless otherwise specifically approved by SABIC. The mechanical seals shall conform to
SES G02-S01.
2.6.2.3 The decision is as follows:

permanent indication of proper oil level shall be accurately located and clearly marked on the outside of
the bearing housings with permanent metal tags; marks inscribed in the castings; or other durable means.
2.8.5 Add the following new paragraph:
When a pressurized or circulating lubrication system is required by a gear or driver, or both, the pump
bearing oil may be supplied from that system. SABIC will specify the supplier of the complete lubrication
system. When specified, the system shall conform to SES G03-S01.
2.9 Materials

Add the following new sub-section:
2.12 Critical Speeds and Resonance
2.12.1 Unless otherwise specified, the separation margin of critical speeds from all lateral modes, including
rigid and bending, shall be at least 25 percent over the maximum continuous speed. This margin is
intended to prevent the overlapping of the resonance envelope into the operating speed range.
2.12.2 Resonance of support systems within the vendor’s scope of supply shall not occur within the
specified operating speed range or the specified separation margins, unless the resonance is critically
damped.
2.12.3 Bearing housing resonance shall not occur within the specified operating speed range or specified
separation margins.
