To perform a rate analysis of brickwork, it is essential to determine the quantities of materials such as bricks and mortar, as well as the required labor. Mortar, which can be composed of different proportions such as 1:2, 1:4, 1:6, or 1:8, needs to be estimated in terms of quantity. However, in order to estimate the overall quantity of materials needed for the brickwork, it is crucial to accurately determine the required quantity of bricks.
Quantity Estimation for Brick Masonry:
To perform rate analysis of brick masonry, we will use 1 cubic meter of brick masonry as our basis. Firstly, for 1 cubic meter of brick masonry, we will require 494 standard size bricks. Secondly, we need to determine the quantity of mortar required for the same. Typically, for 1 cubic meter of brickwork, the quantity of mortar required ranges from 25% to 30%, which translates to 0.25 cubic meters to 0.3 cubic meters of cement masonry. In this particular scenario, we will consider 0.3 cubic meters of cement mortar. It is worth noting that we have already discussed the method to calculate the quantity of materials, namely cement and sand for mortar in a previous conversation.
Labour Estimation for Brick Masonry:
Brick masonry involves several types of labor, including the mason for brickwork, labors for the carriage of materials, mixing and transporting mortar. The amount of labor required is expressed in terms of the number of days required for 1m3 of brick masonry.
For the mason, the required quantity for 1m3 of brickwork is determined to be 0.94 days. Meanwhile, the quantity of labor for various tasks such as carriage of materials, mixing of mortar, and transporting of mortar are combined into a single figure. The total labor required for 1m3 of brick masonry is estimated at 1.57 days.
Costs related to tools and transportation of materials are not included in the labor estimate and will be taken as a lump sum for the specific location. It’s important to consider all of these factors when determining the overall cost and feasibility of a brick masonry project.
