Refrigerant Piping Installation | Lay-out | Material | Specification

  1. Soldered joints shall not be used for piping containing other than Group “”A1″” refrigerant or any other toxic or flammable fluid.
    (ANSI B-31.5 Para 517 a)
Note: See attachment No. 1 for Group “” A1″” refrigerant”
  2. All Refrigerant line shall be purged with 7 Kpa gauge (1.0 psig) dry nitrogen while soldering, brazing or welding connections.
  3. Refrigerant piping placed underground shall be protected against corrosion. (UMC Para 1110.6)
Note: Method for protection shall be reviewed and approved by Saudi Aramco”
  4. Supports for refrigeration piping shall be noncombustible. (UMC Para 1105.2)”
  5. Refrigerant piping and tubing shall be securely fastened to a permanent support within 6 feet (1.8 m) following the first bend in such tubing from the compressor and within 2 feet (610 mm) of each subsequent bend or angle. (UMC Para 1110.3)
  6. Refrigerant piping and tubing shall be supported at points not more than 15 feet (4570 mm) apart. (UMC Para 1110.3)
  7. Soft annealed copper tubing shall not be larger than 1-3/8 inch (34.9 mm) nominal size. (UMC Para 1110.3)
  8. Soft annealed copper tubing conveying refrigerant shall be enclosed in iron or steel piping and fittings or conduits. (UMC Para 1110.3)
  9. Refrigerant piping shall not be located within a required exit. (UMC Para 1110.5)
  10. Refrigerant suction lines shall be insulated from the evaporated to the compressor.
  11. The type of refrigerant, function and pressure shall be indicated on refrigerant piping (UMC Para 1110.8)
  12. Insulation of Insulated refrigerant lines installed outdoors shall be protected from moisture and sunlight degradation by an approved and acceptable method
Note: The most commonly used protection used in Saudi Aramco projects is Aluminum Cladding.
