Scope
This Guideline provides the specification criteria for acceptable performance
of the sample extractor.
Frequency This Guideline applies only to samplers out of service for extended periods
of time and newly installed sample probes.
SAMPLER GRAB SIZE CHECK | SAMPLE EXTRACTOR PROCEDURE
PREPARATIONS:
Determine the bite size set for each probe extractor operation. These are
normally 1cc / bite.
PROCEDURE:
1. Visually verify that the sample probe is being pulsed and is operating
properly.
2. Open the probe sample test valve. If the necessary fittings are not
permanently installed, a temporary fitting replacing the receiver will be
required.
3. Turn the probe control to manual.
4. Allow the sample to squirt into a graduated cylinder.
5. After 20 samples, read the volume in the cylinder. The volume should
be 18-22 ml. If the probe does not perform satisfactorily, clean the
probe line and repeat the test.
6. On completion, turn the control back to AUTO.
7. Close the probe sample test valve.
8. Connect flexible sample line to a clean, dry container.
9. Observe the sample weight and plot on the graph for the corresponding
time.
10. If the weight is not increasing proportionally to the time between
observations, sampler maintenance should be scheduled immediately.
11. Notify the Operations Supervisor to determine if manual sampling is
required per Guideline SACMM-DM-032 – Manual Sampling.
