Skid Mounted Reverse Osmosis System Material Selection Criteria

This article is about Skid Mounted Reverse Osmosis System Material Selection Criteria Technical Requirement in commercial buildings, plants and refinery projects related to Plumbing Engineering System as per international codes and standards.

Skid Mounted Reverse Osmosis System Material Selection Criteria

  1. R.O. System shall be free of damage.
  2. Inspection Release Certificate (IRC) is available.
  3. Reverse Osmosis Systems purchased in accordance with this specification are subject to the requirements of Saudi Aramco Inspection Requirements Form 175-325400.
  4. The skid shall support the total system and shall require only setting on a prepared deck or foundation and accept field connections.
  5. Each skid shall support complete sub-systems e.g. pre-treatment system; chemical cleaning system, etc. requiring only skid-to-skid and terminal point connections in the field.
  6. The vendor shall provide all the special tools for assembly, disassembly, and unit maintenance, along with complete instructions for their use.
  7. The R.O. Skid Unit shall contain, but not necessarily be limited to the following equipment:
    1. The Pre-treatment system shall consist of a filtration section in conjunction withj chemical conditioning.

      1. Chlorination System
        1. The pre-treatment system shall be provided with chlorination system for control of microbiological fouling to the membranes.
        2. The Dechlorination system shall be of the activated carbon or injection of sodium bisulfide, if required
        3. The Dechlorination system shall also incorporate installation of Oxidation-Reduction Potential (ORP) sensors for additional membrane safeguards.
      2. Filteration System
        1. The filter media shall conform to uniformity coefficients of 1.3 or less for sand and 1.5 or less for anthracite and shall meet requirements of 32-SAMSS-034.
        2. Flow meters to indicate and control filteration and backwash velocities shall be included in the system as well as differential pressure indicators.
        3. All the cartridge-type filter elements shall have manual and automatic air and drain valves.
        4. All nameplates on the RO Skid shall be in English and shall include the capacity, Purchase Order No., Vendor’s Particulars and pressure and temperature limits.
      3. Chemical Treatment System
        1. Pretreatment chemical dosing equipment, including metering shall be provided to ensure continuous chemical injection.
        2. For mixing of chemicals, two (2) tanks shall be provided with a minimum of 24 hours capacity at the proposed dosing rate and each tank shall have a mechanical agitator.
    2. A7.2 High Pressure Pump

      1. The high pressure pump shall be of the centrifugal type and shall meet the requirements of 31-SAMSS-004.
      2. A 100% standby pump shall be furnished.
    3. A7.3 Membrane Tube Assembly

      1. The membranes shall be of the hollow fine fiber or the spiral wound type.
        Note: The disc Tube Module Technology type shall be accepted only for very small capacity plants not exceeding 30 m3 per day.”
    4. A7.4 Membrane Cleaning System

      1. The R.O. Skid shall include a complete separate flushing & cleaning system module for the proposed membranes and shall include a pH meter; flow meter, cartridge filter downstream of the recirculation pump, pressure meter and a temperature guage and shall meet the requirements of SAEP-348.
  8. Valved vents and drains shall be provided to permit complete drainage of the total system.*
  9. Valved sample connections shall be provided at the inlet and outlet of each filter*.
  10. Isolation valves and differential pressure meters shall be provided on each cartridge filter housing*
  11. The High Pressure (HP) pump shall be provided with suction snad discharge isolation valves and a discharge check valve between the pump and isolation valve.
  12. A control valve shall be provided on the reject side of the membranes for controlling membrane recovery.*
  13. Sampling points shall be provided downstream of the micron filter, membrane product side and reject side*
  14. A backpressure control valve (PCV) shall be provided downstream of the HP pump.*
  15. All Materials on the RO skid shall be compatible with the intended service per SAES-L-132 and other relevant standards.
  16. Contacts between dissimilar metallic materials shall be electrically insulated.
  17. The cartridge housing shall be rubber lined or FRP.
  18. The RO Unit shall be furnished with instrumentation to allow unattended operation.
  19. The HP pump shall be provided with an alarm in case of the pump shut down.
  20. A Control panel shall be furnished as part of the RO Unit, completely assembled and wired.
  21. The following minimum instrumentation shall be included Skid Mounted Reverse Osmosis System:
    1. Feed water flow regulator.
    2. Feed water pressure indicator.
    3. Feed water temperature indicator.
    4. Reject water flow regulator.
    5. Reject water pressure indicator.
    6. Filter differential pressure indicator (for each filter).
    7. Indicators for the HP Pump suction and discharge pressure (for each pump).
    8. Product Salinity indicator.
    9. Indicator for pH if feed pH adjustment is required.
    10. Filter backwash flow indicator ( for each filter).

Handling, Storage and Preservation

Verify that approved procedures for handling, storage and preservation, lists all the required inspection schedules for maintaining the quality of the various components of the R.O. System.
