This article is about Guide for Creating a Project Design and steps to be taken from zero. This blog is specially for engineers, technicians and professionals who wants to be know about full complete design document list for plants, oil and gas projects. In this article, example, which is taken for project design steps is Petroleum Exploration Project. Here you will learn project implementation design steps and more can get information about project design in project management.
Steps in Project Design
Design Detailed Activities
Prepare detailed process design
Prepare the P&IDs for all process and utility systems, process data sheets for equipment, control requirement specifications and operating procedures.
Prepare detailed mechanical design
Prepare or modify piping and mechanical equipment design, equipment handling systems design, detailed mechanical equipment specification, mechanical maintenance procedures and define spares requirement.
Prepare detailed electrical design
Review and detail facilities electrical requirements. Prepare electric equipment specifications, power distribution systems design, lighting and small power design, electrical cable routing and termination details, earthing requirements, electrical environment control requirements and electrical maintenance procedures. Define electric
equipment spares requirements.
Prepare detailed, control and instrumentation design
Review and detail facilities instrumentation requirements. Prepare specifications for measurement instruments, actuators, control system/control panel/room ergonomics and instrumentation environment, control requirements, clean earthing requirements, instrumentation and control maintenance procedures. Define signal transmission
pathways/cable routing and termination details. Define instrumentation and control equipment spares requirements.
Prepare detailed IT infrastructure design
Review and detail the IT infrastructure Service requirements. Prepare IT equipment specifications and infrastructure design, cable routing and termination details, environmental control requirements and maintenance procedures. Define IT equipment spares requirements. Note: IT infrastructure includes Wide Area Network (WAN), Mainframe/midrange/PC/Desktop computers, shared servers, radio, telephone, fax, telex.
Prepare detailed civil/structural design
Initiate site survey and soil investigation. Prepare civil/ structural designs, specifications and construction drawings, including line diagrams and details, and other appurtenances. Design buildings/modules, containment systems, drainage systems and foundation/support structures. Produce painting and surface finish specifications, weight
schedule and Bills of Quantities.
Prepare detailed pipelines design
Perform route survey and soil investigation, a risk assessment and environmental impact study. Prepare the detailed design of the pipeline and associated facilities, including alignment sheets and operating and maintenance procedures. Define spares requirements.
Prepare detailed subsea design
Initiate subsea survey and risk assessment and environmental impact study. Prepare specifications and construction drawings for subsea and associated well head equipment, flow lines, risers and production and workover control systems Establish installation, operating and maintenance procedures. Define spares requirements.
Prepare detailed layout and construction design
Prepare site layout drawings, 3D model and site construction and installation (or demolition) methodology and drawings. Coordinate interfaces between design areas. Define test and precommissioning (or decommissioning) requirements.
Prepare detailed HSE assessment
Prepare design and specifications for risk control, loss prevention and evacuation systems. Update the Hazard Register to reflect all HSE assessments performed during detailed design. Prepare input for HSE case (refer ASS-01.02).
Prepare update for Asset Reference Plan
Initiate RCM analysis via A-72.02, and modify/compile maintenance procedures accordingly. Initiate review of operating specifications via A-71.02. Define future activity requirements by type and frequency per asset and associated resources, together with identified uncertainties and assumptions. Prepare description of new/modified asset(s).
Compile Approved for Construction (AFC) package
For new or modified facilities the AFC package will typically contain detailed equipment specifications, P&IDs, 2D schematics, 3D model, construction drawings, procedures for equipment installation, precommissioning and maintenance, vendor drawings and spares lists. For abandonment the package will typically contain the
detailed abandonment methodology, with the necessary Drawings and procedures to cover decommissioning, dismantling, transportation, disposal and site clean-up.
Compile documentation for commissioning and operation
Compile documentation for the commissioning plan, including procedures, specialist requirements and checklists, system drawings and design operating envelopes, alarm and trip settings, cause and effect diagrams and operating procedures.
