TEMPERATURE SPOT CHECK | PROCESS & CONTROL SYSTEM

Scope
This Guideline provides a method to compare the temperature
measured by a temperature device and displayed on the flow
computer with that indicated by a digital thermometer placed in a
thermowell adjacent to the temperature device.

TEMPERATURE SPOT CHECK | PROCESS & CONTROL SYSTEM

Procedure
PREPARATIONS:

Ensure that this check is undertaken with product flowing
across the thermo-wells. Record the results of the test on
Temperature Spot Check Test Sheet, attached.

Verify that the certificates for the test equipment are valid.
Check that the test equipment serial numbers and
certification dates are accurately recorded on the test sheet
and correspond with the test equipment used. Ensure the
instrument tag and serial numbers are recorded on the test
sheet.

CALIBRATION EQUIPMENT:

A) Digital Temperature Indicator

PROCEDURE:

The temperature device shall be checked using the
following procedure:

a)
Insert the digital thermometer in the thermowell
adjacent to the temperature device and allow the
digital thermometer to stabilise for approximately 15
minutes.
b) Simultaneously read the temperature indicated on the
digital thermometer and that shown on the flow
computer.
c) Complete the temperature spot check test sheet. If
the two readings are within the required tolerance the
test is complete.

d) If the two readings are out of tolerance, corrective
action is required. It may be necessary to calibrate the
temperature transmitter or change the RTD.
e) Once the temperatures are within tolerance complete
the temperature spot check test sheet.
e) Enter details of all tests in the Metering Log Book.
Record if the RTD has been replaced.
