Recommendations for Tower and Vessel Internals Operation in Plants & Refinery
1. Training
Training for adsorbent towers internal installation is very important, even if this is mainly based on knowledge of the necessity of the quality of work, the mistakes that are to be avoided, the criteria for satisfying installation etc …
First of all it is very important that all the personnel involved in the assembly process are informed of the full content of this training. By this way in case someone miss one detail, everyone is able to point it out even if it is not part of the job he is involved in. As the adsorbent tower internal installation is very heavy, weariness is one of the main issues in this job and human mistakes may occur much more easily.

2. Internal Inspection
Personnel in charge of this inspection should be informed of the criticality related to the integrity of each internal (screens, flexible hoses, internal piping cleanliness etc … ). Check lists should be issued in order not to let any defect go that can compromise the final performances of the unit.
3. Panels and piping installation
Once again, information related to the integrity of each component of the tray (screen, flexible hoses etc … ) should be given to the personnel dedicated to panels and piping installation so as to ensure that while manipulating these elements, people inside the adsorbers take care of it.
All steps for panels and piping installation should be known by the personnel before starting the work. In particular this includes installation sequences, checking of the agreement between elements (referring to punch marking) for assembly, panels installation procedure using spacers, use of neoprene protection sheet, rope packing etc.. Everything should be done in order to provide as much information as possible related to satisfying panels and piping installation, and in particular faults that have to be avoided.
4. Beam positioning
Beam installation requires as much care as for tray installation. Actually while manipulating beams, personnel have to keep in mind that integrity of the tray below is to be saved. If any collision between lifted beam and piping or panel screen occurs, a complete inspection should be done to check the integrity of the knocked element.
Before entry into the adsorber, information related to the work to be done should be given to the dedicated personnel. In particular installation sequence, importance of beam levelling, punch marking after installation etc … have to be emphasized. By the same way as for the other steps of internal installation, information related to satisfying beam installation should be known by the personnel responsible for this task.
5. Sieve loading
Training can be performed during checking of equipment’s suitability for this step (refer to sieve loading section). The mock-up test being done with the real material to be used except for the big bags content, it is recommended to perform it with the personnel who will be dedicated to this task. The mock-up test could be done as many times as desired for training purpose.
Whatever the task he is involved in, the personnel should be aware of the possible causes for work delay in schedule and associated consequences (Refer to corresponding section). Moreover it has to be kept in mind that opening of the vessel after oil-in is a highly risky operation for internals and sieve if unloading and dismantling is required and very dangerous for personnel involved in this corrective operation.

What is Sieve loading in Refinery?
Sieve loading in a refinery refers to the process of using sieves or screens to separate and classify solid particles in various refining operations. It is commonly employed in processes such as crude oil refining, catalyst handling, and solid-liquid separation. Sieve loading helps to remove unwanted particles, impurities, and contaminants from the feedstock or final products, ensuring the desired quality and purity of the refined materials. The choice of sieve size and configuration depends on the specific application and desired particle size distribution. Proper sieve loading techniques, including careful sample preparation and ensuring consistent feed rates, are essential for accurate and efficient refining processes in the oil and gas industry.

What is adsorbent towers?
Adsorbent towers are equipment used for the purification and separation of gases or liquids. They contain a bed of adsorbent material that removes impurities from a fluid stream through adsorption. The towers are crucial in various industries, including refineries, petrochemical plants, and gas processing facilities. They help remove contaminants and ensure the production of high-quality end products.

How to perform Internal Inspection of adsorbent tower?
Performing an internal inspection of an adsorbent tower involves shutting down the tower, isolating it from the process, gaining access through manways, visually inspecting the interior for any abnormalities, and taking samples for analysis. Maintenance tasks such as cleaning and repairing damaged components may be necessary. Proper documentation of findings and actions taken should be recorded. Qualified personnel with expertise in tower operations and safety procedures should conduct these inspections.
