High Frequency Welded Pipe line

This specification applies specifically to high frequency welded (HFW) pipes with an outside diameter of 114.3 mm (NPS 4) or larger. It is designed for use in Saudi Aramco Requirement Class B and Class C applications. The pipes must conform to the International Standard API SPEC 5L/ISO 3183 at product specification level 2 (PSL 2).

In Class C service, which includes offshore, sour gas, or corrosion service as defined by Saudi Aramco Engineering Standard SAES-L-133, the requirements are more stringent. Class B service covers all other services not classified as Class C. The specific requirements for Class B and Class C services are defined in SAES-L-136.

Unless otherwise specified in the purchase requisition and purchase order, the pipes manufactured to this specification must be suitable for external coating with fusion bonded epoxy at a later stage as determined by the purchaser. If internal coating is required, it must be clearly stated in the purchase requisition and purchase order.

FAQs about High Frequency Welded Pipe line

What is high frequency welded (HFW) pipe?

High frequency welded pipe is a type of steel pipe that is manufactured using high-frequency electrical currents to join the edges of the steel strip together. This welding technique provides a strong and reliable bond, making it suitable for various applications.

What are the advantages of high frequency welded pipe?

High frequency welded pipe offers several advantages, including high production efficiency, precise and consistent weld quality, excellent dimensional control, and the ability to produce pipes with a wide range of sizes and wall thicknesses. It is also cost-effective compared to other welding methods.

What are the common applications of high frequency welded pipe?

High frequency welded pipe is widely used in various industries, including oil and gas, water supply, construction, infrastructure, and automotive. It is commonly used for conveying fluids, gas transportation, structural support, and general piping applications.

What are the quality standards for high frequency welded pipe?

High frequency welded pipe must meet specific quality standards to ensure its performance and durability. These standards typically include dimensional tolerances, chemical composition, mechanical properties, and non-destructive testing requirements. International standards such as API SPEC 5L and ISO 3183 are commonly referenced for HFW pipe.

How does high frequency welded pipe compare to other types of welded pipes?

High frequency welded pipe offers advantages over other welding methods, such as submerged arc welding (SAW) and electric resistance welding (ERW). It provides better control over the welding process, resulting in higher-quality welds and improved mechanical properties. HFW pipe also has a narrower heat-affected zone, reducing the risk of brittleness and maintaining the integrity of the pipe.
