The 01-SAMSS-038 specification outlines the mandatory requirements for the direct purchase of small quantities of seamless and longitudinal seam submerged-arc welded pipes. This specification is applicable when a request for quotation under 01-SAMSS-035 does not yield any bids due to the small size of the order. However, it is important to note that large pipe orders that can be purchased under 01-SAMSS-035 should not be broken into smaller orders to substitute this specification.
Pipes procured from stockists must be from manufacturers approved by Saudi Aramco. Additionally, small quantity pipes can be directly procured from any approved vendor in accordance with this standard. The requirements specified in 01-SAMSS-035 do not apply to pipes procured under this specification.
It is important to consider that this specification is intended for small pipe orders that are not feasible for a mill run. The goal is to align with common API standards while including additional requirements necessary for safe and reliable operation in the intended services.
This specification applies only to seamless and longitudinal seam submerged-arc welded pipes in strength grades equivalent to API SPEC 5L Grade B through API SPEC 5L Grade X65. The heat treatment condition of the pipes should comply with specified parameters.
It’s worth noting that this specification does not apply to low-pressure utility pipes (bare, galvanized, or cement-lined) with a maximum operating pressure of 175.5 psi unless specified in the Purchase Order. For utility applications, pipes should be procured according to SAES-S-010 or SAES-S-060. Additionally, this specification does not cover submerged-arc spiral welded pipe, electric resistance welded pipe, or high-frequency induction welded pipe.
