RTR (Fiberglass) Pressure Pipe and Fittings

The 01-SAMSS-034 specification outlines the requirements for couplings, fittings, flanges, and spools made from glass-fiber-reinforced thermosetting resin pipe (RTRP) using polyester, vinyl ester, or epoxy resin. The specification applies to both restrained and unrestrained joints. Throughout the document, the term “RTR pipe” is used to refer to the fiberglass pipe that includes RTRP.

The minimum pressure/temperature rating for the pipe and fittings is set at 10 bar (150 psig) at 65°C, with higher pressure ratings available at increments of 3.5 bar (50 psig) up to 20 bar (300 psig). Pipe and fittings with pressure ratings exceeding 20 bar (300 psig) are available at increments of 7 bar (100 psig) up to 70 bar (1000 psig). The associated temperature rating is specified in the Purchase Order and is set at 65°C or higher.

For dedicated fire water piping systems, the minimum pressure/temperature rating is 12 bar (175 psig) at 93°C, and certification is required as per paragraph 10.3.2 of the specification.
It’s important to note that this specification does not apply to RTRP pipe intended for use in process water, injection water, and hydrocarbon services applications. For such applications, refer to 01-SAMSS-042.
